ALL in KNOTS, NEW WORKS BY ELLEN JONG

ALL in KNOTS, introduces new works by Ellen Jong using rope and both conventional and abstract knots for sculpture and wearable pieces.  The knots are treated with rubber giving natural and primitive qualities of the ropes a full-sized look.  ALL in KNOTS expresses a feeling of being in flux--a personal state that Jong finds herself in--and juxtaposes notions of preservation and decay.  Jong loves that the rubberized pieces have the appearance of having been pulled out of deep sea sludge.  The rope, rubber, knots and chains are also materials associated with bondage, which Jong references to confront issues of body and self.  Jong is known for her personal and biographical storytelling through photographs.  Jong takes experiences in her everyday life as raw material to express and confront issues including social politics, private vs. public, self-discovery and life as a performance.
